Kentucky Clashes against Online CasinosPosted 28 January 2009 in Latest News
Kentucky Fails to Seize the Biggest Names in Online Casino Gambling; Plans to Take the Case to the Supreme Court
Two big names in the online casino industry, Bodog and Full Tilt Poker, were supposed to be seized by the state under the premise that gambling is considered to be illegal in Kentucky.
However, the state law further says that these names are not used as devices for gambling, which is the reason why the state lost the right to seize the names of these two online casinos and 141 other gambling websites with a 2-1 vote.
But according to J. Michael Brown, head of Kentucky Justice and Public Safety Cabinet, they are still planning to appeal this case to a higher court, since there are already two judges who agreed with them, in contrast to two others who disagreed.
Casinos, even online casinos, are considered to be illegal under the Kentucky state law, which is why the Kentucky government seeks to protect its citizens from these illegal casino sites.

Blue Chip Casino Hopes to Attract More Casino Patrons as New Twenty Two Story Hotel Opens
With the global financial crisis getting the best of most casinos, the Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City, Indiana has hopefully found a way to cut back on their financial losses.
The casino has built a new twenty two story hotel as part of its amenities. This is also in addition to the already existing eight story hotel with 184 rooms that Blue Chip Casino has. The new hotel features 302 new rooms, plus several bars and restaurants, a spa, and a 1,200-seater theater.
Blue Chip Casino hopes to financially recover from the tough competition in the Michigan area through the establishment of this new hotel. Ever since chief competitor Four Winds Casino Resort opened, Blue Chip Casino reportedly lost over 35% of its regular clientele. Costing $130 million, the new Blue Chip Casino hotel opened last Thursday with a fireworks show.
This move made by Blue Chip Casino aims not only to bring more people into their casino, but also to the area where there are also other casinos that have been struck by the financial crisis.

Australia’s Casinos Boom in 2008Posted 27 January 2009 in Latest News
Australia’s Prime Minister being Blamed for Gambling Machine Losses in the Latter Part of 2008
For a country that wants to slow down on the casino industry, sudden increases in gambling rates are unacceptable.
This is the case in Australia, which has experienced a major increase in poker machine gambling in the latter part of 2008. Ironically enough, this surge was largely blamed on the Australian government, the Prime Minister in particular.
According to the Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation, the increase from the early part of 2008 to the latter half of the year amounted to a $46 million increase. The overall figure for the second half of the year alone was $1.4 billion.
The government admitted that the stimulus payment made before the holidays may have contributed to the sudden increase in gambling. In fact, December registered as the month with the largest gambling increase.
However, the growth of casino gambling in 2008 is much slower than the previous year, even with the establishment of a lot of land-based casinos and online casinos.
