Antiquated 1802 South Carolina Law to be Repealed; Replaced by New Bill Legalizing Home Poker in South Carolina Homes
State legislators from South Carolina are proposing to change an 1802 law that literally prohibits all kinds of card and dice games, even innocent ones such as Monopoly.
Just last month, five people playing poker inside their homes were charged as guilty because of the 1802 law, which is 207 years old to date. Larry Duffy, Municipal Judge of Mount Pleasant, also ruled that poker is mainly a game of skill, thus exciting people who are moving for the legalization of online casinos in South Carolina.
Because of this, Senator Glenn McConnell of South Carolina proposed a bill legalizing the game of poker for personal or charity purposes, as long as they do not follow the casino style of placing bets or odds. In other words, poker is acceptable as long as there is no house income involved.
According to the senator, the 1802 law was written during a time that is different from the present, and that the government should not impose on what people would like to play in their homes, whether it be poker, online blackjack, or online roulette.
The bill written by McConnell will allow for fundraising events involving casino games. However, betting on an online casino and other live sporting events are still outlawed. Hence, even the best online casino or best bonus casino still has no place in the new South Carolina gambling bill.
